The article examines the evolution of constitutional law in Latvia from 2022 to 2024, a period marked by geopolitical challenges following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Although the internal political landscape appeared stable, this period saw notable developments in legal frameworks and the interpretation of constitutional provisions. Among these developments, a new mechanism – local government referendums – was introduced, and several amendments were made to implement partnership registration in Latvia, thereby expanding the protection of rights for individuals declaring their cohabitation (family in a broader sense). The role of the Constitutional Court has remained consistently significant, with rulings during this period focusing on the protection of Latvia’s status as a national, rule of law state. Special attention was paid to the stability of the state structure and the protection of individual rights in the context of various challenges.

L’article examine l’évolution du droit constitutionnel en Lettonie de 2022 à 2024, période marquée par des défis géopolitiques suite à l’invasion de l’Ukraine par la Russie. Bien que le paysage politique interne semble stable, cette période a connu des développements notables dans les cadres juridiques et dans l’interprétation des dispositions constitutionnelles. Parmi ces développements, un nouveau mécanisme – les référendums des gouvernements locaux – a été introduit, et plusieurs amendements ont été apportés pour mettre en œuvre l’enregistrement des partenariats en Lettonie, élargissant ainsi la protection des droits des individus déclarant leur cohabitation (famille au sens large). Le rôle de la Cour constitutionnelle est resté important, les décisions rendues au cours de cette période étant axées sur la protection du statut de la Lettonie en tant qu’État de droit national. Une attention particulière a été accordée à la stabilité de la structure de l’État et à la protection des droits individuels dans le contexte de divers défis.
