European Security: Slovak Republic

The Slovak Republic as a relatively new Member State of the EU and in the area of security within the EU has a limited experience compared to the older states. However, it transposed all related legal acts, made the required changes of the legal order and implemented conventions and strategies in the area of security and protection of the external border of the European Union. Slovakia became a member of the Schengen system in December 2007, so practical information and case law is missing; however, there are experiences by building the security system on the Eastern border of the European Union between Slovakia and Ukraine. But it has to be stated that Slovakia built the entire system of contact points regarding the cooperation with the European agencies responsible for the implementation of the policy in third-pillar issues (such as departments within the police authority for contacts with the Europol, Eurojust, and others).
