This chronicle firstly looks at an interplay between formal and informal accountability mechanisms in the Slovak political system by reflecting the events surrounding the 2018 murder of investigative journalist J. Kuciak and his fiancée. The aftermath saw the largest public protests in Slovakia since 1989 and led to the resignation of Prime Minister R. Fico, Interior Minister R. Kaliňák and Police President T. Gašpar. In the second part, the chronicle summarizes recent developments at the Constitutional Court of Slovakia before nine out 13 justices’ terms expire in February 2019, including the resolution to a longstanding conflict between President A. Kiska and the parliament over the appointment of candidates for constitutional judges elected by the legislature in 2014.
Cette chronique examine d’abord l’interaction entre les mécanismes formels et informels de responsabilisation dans le système politique slovaque par une réflexion sur les événements qui ont entouré l’assassinat en 2018 du journaliste d’investigation J. Kuciak et de sa fiancée. Ils ont été suivis des plus grandes manifestations de rue en Slovaquie depuis 1989 et ont conduit à la démission du Premier ministre R. Fico, du ministre de l’Intérieur R. Kaliňák et du président de la police T. Gašpar. Dans la seconde partie, la chronique résume l’évolution récente de la situation à la Cour constitutionnelle slovaque avant l’expiration en février 2019 de neuf des treize mandats des juges, y compris la résolution d’un conflit de longue date entre le Président A. Kiska et le Parlement concernant la nomination des candidats aux postes de juge constitutionnel élus par le Parlement en 2014.
