This chronicle covers legal, political and policy aspects of the 2009 ruling of the Constitutional Court of Slovakia in which the court addressed the existence of the Special Court. The Special Court was established in 2004 to hear high-profiled cases involving organized crime and high-level corruption. The chronicle offers details of the Special Court establishment and subsequent attempts of the Minister of Justice Harabin to abolish the court on the basis of the executive interference and salary scheme that made the Special Court justices the highest-paid officials in Slovakia. In its final part, the chronicle covers the ruling of the Constitutional Court in which the majority ruled that the establishment of the Special Court was unconstitutional.
