The last two years have been marked by an impressive level of activism of the Serbian Ombudsman. The Ombudsman successfully plays a key role in scrutinising the work of the executive and enforcing the good governance principle. This was demonstrated by the number of complaints and the conduct of administrative authorities in acting upon recommendations by the Ombudsman. Moreover, the range of legislative initiatives regarding the variety of issues from his scope of work further reiterated his efforts to expose the executive to a rigorous process of political accountability. Nonetheless, noticeable attempts to interfere with his work became more prominent as the Ombudsman has assumed greater significance and gains wider political support. The Ombudsman is still perceived as a threat to the executive rather than a supervisory mechanism. Likewise, the extent and level of coordination of the administrative authorities with the Ombudsman has to be improved. Still, there is a glimpse of hope that the Ombudsman will assume a proper role in the future.
Les deux dernières années ont été marquées par l'activité impressionnante de l'ombudsman serbe. L'ombudsman joue avec succès un rôle clé dans la surveillance du travail de l'exécutif et dans le renforcement du principe de bonne gouvernance. C'est ce qu'ont montré le nombre de plaintes et le comportement des autorités administratives qui ont donné suite à ses recommandations. De plus, l'ampleur des initiatives législatives concernant toute une série de problèmes relevant de son domaine a corroboré ses efforts visant à exposer l'exécutif à un processus rigoureux de responsabilité politique. Cependant, comme l'ombudsman a acquis une importance accrue et obtient un support politique plus large, les tentatives d'interférer dans son travail sont devenues plus visibles. Il est encore perçu comme une menace pour l'exécutif plutôt que comme un mécanisme de surveillance. De même, l'étendue et le niveau de la coordination des autorités administratives avec l'ombudsman doivent être améliorés. Néanmoins, il existe une lueur d'espoir que l'ombudsman puisse exercer correctement son rôle à l'avenir.
