Marie-José Garot is an Associate Professor at IE Law School, where she teaches European Union Law in the Master programs. She also serves as the Director of the IE Center for European Studies.

Over more than 10 years, she has held various academic management positions at IE University, initially as the director of the Law department, then as vice-dean of the faculty of IE Law School, and finally as vice-dean of Master programs at IE Law School.

Marie-José Garot is also a Jean Monnet expert and collaborates regularly with the European Commission.

Her research primarily focuses on the evolution of the concept of citizenship of the European Union, although she has also published papers on the Chinese legal system as well on the first steps of e-administration in some European countries.

After completing her term as vice-dean, she initiated two new lines of research. The first focuses on the regulation of digital services in the European Union and the role played by the European Commission in that regard. Parallel to this, she has started to research on preliminary references to the Court of Justice of the European Union from an empirical point of view. She will soon publish the first results.
