The article analyzes the main global trends in the blockchain legal regulations. The author highlights the practice of using blockchain by financial institutions, the legal framework and the requirements for the legality of transactions with blockchain and cryptocurrencies and develops a discussion about the positive and negative aspects of using blockchain. Emphasis is placed on the legal definitions of virtual assets as the means of payment, the development of Ukrainian legislation on virtual assets and the need to introduce in it the relevant EU norms and international experience. The article considers the need to implement the blockchain technologies not only in the field of virtual currencies or international trade operations, but also in the field of public administration, in particular State registers. It indicates the main trends in the development of the blockchain technologies in the commercial sector and defines the main advantages of the further implementation of blockchain in the system of the legal regulation of economic activity in Ukraine in the course of its post-war recovery.
