“Public Law and the Judges”
According to the policy of the ERPL, the proceedings of the annual EGPL Conference appearing as an ERPL issue, are also published as a special volume of the European Public Law Series, given the importance of the subjects treated therein. In this context, the proceedings of the EGPL Conference 2011 are also published as a volume of the European Public Law Series. Within the framework of a General Introduction on “The Status of the Judge: Independence and Impartiality”, Professors Ph. Nélidoff, A. Gordillo and P. Nihoul present their general reports, whereas the theme of “Judicial Legitimacy - The Functions of the Judge” is treated by Sir Stephen Sedley and Prof. A.M. Guerra Martins, and the theme of “Judge-Made Law” is treated by Judge S. Papasavvas. National reports on “The Dialogue of the Judges: National Courts and European Courts” are included, coming from: Austria, Bulgaria, Denmark, Greece, Ireland, The Netherlands, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and Ukraine. A comparative perspective on the theme is provided by Prof. V. Kondylis, on the basis of the national reports and of a Questionnaire, which is also included in the publication in English. The General Conclusions are presented by Professor A. Reichman.
In this same issue, are presented the speeches on the occasion of the Laudatio to Prof. S. Cassese (speeches by Professors G. della Cananea, E. Schmidt-Aßmann, L. Ortega, J.-B. Auby and Prof. S. Cassese’s Acknowledgements) and of the Laudatio to Prof. L. Martín-Retortillo (speeches by Professors M. P. Chiti, B. Pacteau, E. Malaret and Prof. L. Martín-Retortillo’s Acknowledgements).
