Jean Blondel and the State

Luis María Díez-Picazo

Supreme Court of Spain

The purpose of this text is to honour the memory of a great political scientist, who has recently disappeared. The author reflects the debate in a seminar held with Professor Blondel at the European University Institute in the mid-90’s. The seminar dealt with a classical topic, in the form of a dialogue between political scientists and constitutional lawyers. Furthermore, it stressed the strength (and sometimes the weakness) of Anglophilia when examining constitutional issues.
