This chronicle analyses recent important decisions of the UK courts made pursuant to the Human Rights Act 1998. It focuses in particular on decisions concerning equality and judicial review, and analyses House of Lords' decisions that have instituted a differential standard of review for equality cases, distinguishing between strict scrutiny for suspect classifications and lower intensity rationality review for other types of distinguishing features. The chronicle then considers case law that raises the issue of the inter-relationship between sections 3 and 6 of the HRA and concludes with discussion of important recent judicial decisions concerning the power of the Crown to disburse public funds.
