The Spanish Chronicle of Constitutional Law in 2006 reviews the most significant legal events occurred in this period. Among them, the following are pointed out: The declaration of 2006 as Year of Historical Memory; a high level of legislative activity carried out by the Parliament; the celebration of elections for the Catalan Parliament; the dissolution of Marbella’s Municipal Council; and, above all, the approval of the new Regional Statutes of Cataluña and Valencia, which have dominated the political debate during the year. In the jurisprudential field, it is to be of special consideration the Constitutional Court Sentence 204/2006, of the 20th of July, resolving the first conflict in defence of the local autonomy, and the Constitutional Court Sentence 361/2006, of the 18th of December, which recognizes to the parliamentary groups the right to “express their collective refusal to a legislative measure”.
